How do you do your wash? Some folks shovel the clothes into the washer, set it for cold and large capacity, dump a capful of soap in and fire it up, without sorting.

Other folks sort their clothes and put the water in first, then get going. They also set the controls according to the type of clothing going in.

Americans have the largest wardrobes in the history of the world and Americans wash their clothes too often. In Europe, it is not uncommon for people to wear an outfit two to three times before washing.

Europeans are also used to different machines than Americans. Americans fancy the top-loading machines, as opposed to the gentler, front-loading machines that look similar to a dryer. The agitator in the middle is reported to beat up garments and knock the dirt out of them, while the tumbling motion of the front-loader reaches a better level of cleanliness without the unncessary roughness.

Americans appear to be spending more time on the wash now than 50 years ago, but research shows the clothing is coming out less clean and more worn than elsewhere in the world.

A Procter & Gamble study found the average American woman in the laundry room seven to nine hours per week, up from the 1960’s. This phenomenon is likely due to the singular wearing of garments and the large wardrobes Americans are keeping.

Since the 1960’s the way wash is being done in America hasn’t changed that much, but the machines have. Apparently, Americans aren’t reading their instruction booklets when they buy new machinery, and as a result clothing is wearing thin faster and not getting as clean as it should be.

Counteract this scourge of uncleanliness and unnecessary waste and bring your garments to us for exceptional care!
